Techniques Designed to Reduce Pain & Stimulate Healing
Diversified Technique/Thompson Drop
Diversified technique uses either hand power or a block or table to relieve pressure and pain in the joints. Quick, light thrusts are applied to the joint. Thompson Drop is a popular diversified technique that uses a table with segments that drop, improving mobility in the spine and joints and reducing the amount of pressure needed to perform the adjustment. This is also helpful for patients who have uneven leg lengths.
Flexion Distraction
The Flexion Distraction technique uses a table that gently and rhythmically flexes and moves the spine in different directions. This allows for any bulging spine discs to be pulled back into place as well as allows space for nutrients to enter the spine, thus reducing pain and improving mobility.
Activator Method
The activator is a small, hand-held, spring-loaded instrument that is applied to different areas of the spine in quick, light impulses. This a gentle yet effective technique, because there is so little time in between impulses that the spine doesn’t have time to create resistance.
Blocking
By resting the body on blocks placed at specific areas, the spine and joints can be manipulated and positioned so that gravity can provide pain relief.
Rossiter
The Rossiter technique is a two-person stretching system that offers pain relief, increased range of motion, and improved circulation.
Modalities
Modalities are additional treatments that supplement chiropractic adjustments. Modalities we provide include:
• Ultrasound
Ultrasound waves are delivered to the area of pain. Ultrasound produces thermal energy that reduces swelling, inflammation and pain and improves blood flow.
• Electrical Muscle Stimulation
Electrical muscle stimulation applied to specific muscles causes them to contract, which helps to build up strength, encourage blood flow and improve mobility.
• Cold Laser
Cold laser therapy penetrates light energy into the body tissues, stimulating healing, reducing inflammation, and relieving pain.
• Moist Heat
We provide moist heat packs, which help to soothe muscles, improve circulation in painful areas and increase range of motion.
• Intersegmental Traction
During intersegmental traction, the patient lays upon a table with rollers under the surface that roll up and down the spine, massaging and flexing the joints.
• Inversion Table
With an inversion table, a patient is turned upside down, which helps to create space in between the spinal discs and to lengthen the spine, improving posture and encouraging healing.
